Therefore, going back to classics and texts is the basic condition for us to study thinkers. The discussion of Dong Zhongshu, the most famous thinker in Han Dynasty, is also no exception. In other words, tomorrow we will discuss Dong Zhongshu, and the first thing we need to solve is the problem of the historical materials. In addition to the 17th volume and 82 chapters of “Year and Blossom Lu” that have been passed down, Dong Zhongshu’s works include the “Three Strategies of Heaven and Man” collected in the “Han Book” and the “Number of the Names of the People” published in the “Han Books·Food Records” and so on. They are the concentrated reactions of Dong Zhongshu’s Confucian thoughts, and are also the most basic basis for us to discuss and evaluate Dong Zhongshu’s academic speech tomorrow. 1. The advantages of “Han Shu” than “History Records” in the study of Dong Zhongshu              

 

The History Records and Han Books both record the relevant matters of Dong Zhongshu, but the two books show a very big difference in specific processing: one is the difference in specifications of the standing. Han Books was published solely by Dong Zhongshu, while the History Records only compiled them in “The Legend of the Scholars”. This difference reflects the differences in the understanding that Sima and Ban Gu have had different understandings about the main nature of Dong Zhongshu’s position. Secondly, there are some differences in the text of Dong Zhongshu’s book about the two books. “Han Book” records Dong Zhongshu’s life, academic essence, “Three Strategies for Heaven and Man” and “Number of the World”; and “History Records”‘s notes on Dong’s academic activities and thoughts are very simple, and only the few words in “The Scholars” are important.

 

Sima’s “History Records” was too brief in the life story of Dong Zhongshu, a great scholar, and at a certain level, he discussed Dong Zhongshu and established a “block” for future generations’ thinking history. It is very simple. Tomorrow, only through the brief recollection of “Historical Records”, it is impossible to make a comprehensive and realistic understanding of Dong Zhongshu’s academic thoughts. Fortunately, Ban Gu’s “Han Book” has better supplemented this shortcoming. It is a separate and independent version of Dong Zhongshu, as if it were actually the place where Dong Zhongshu should have in history. In this edition, it records the famous “Three Strategies of Heaven and Man” in its full text, which provides a real reminder of the serious transformation of Han Age’s academic thoughts, and concentrates on reflecting Dong Zhongshu’s basic face of philosophy, politics, economy, and teaching thinking. This is the most precious first-hand article for the study of Dong Zhongshu’s thoughts. To be honest, if we don’t have Han Shu, we will not be able to discuss the true feelings of the book “Age of the Birth of the Year”, and we can’t discuss Dong Zhong’s system of Shu Siwei. From this meaning, Ban Gu is the year-night Chinese New Year that Dong Zhongshu has retained.

  “Han Book” for Dong ZhongShu’s emphasis and praise have a profound historical landscape. This starts with the establishment of the trend of the times. Since Dong Zhongshu’s long-term commitment to the establishment of Confucianism, Confucianism has become a ruling idea, and the imperial school pursues education and expands the influence of Confucianism. At the same time, he opened his career broadly, focused on profit and ensured that Confucian scholars participate in politics. “Han Shu·Su Lin” says: “Bao meaning Since then, the ministers and officials have become more literate. “It is this abstract photo of this situation, and this has further led to the energy of Confucianism to penetrate into various aspects of social career. “At that time, Zhang Tang, in the upper country literature, decided to pay attention to the ancient meaning, so he asked a doctor.     The thrill of this social trend has made Dong Zhongshu, the outstanding representative of Confucianism in Han Dynasty, further determined the historical position of Dong Zhongshu, and his voice is becoming increasingly prosperous. Sima only claimed that Dong Zhongshu was “in integrity and righteous” and “all scholars respected him” (“Historical Records: Reprints of Scholars”). However, since the middle and late stages of Xihan, the evaluation of Dong Zhongshu has increased directly, and it has not been blocked. Ru Liu Xiang said that he “has the talent of the king and the master. Although Yi and the masters of the king and the masters of the king are almost not as good as those of the king and the masters.” (“Han Shu·Dong Zhongshu·Zhang”). His son Liu Xin confirmed that Dong ZhongBao HaimeiShu’s historical influence is that “makes the later scholars united and is the leader of the Confucians.” (Ibid.) Since Dong Zhongshu is so important, it becomes a guest request to convey it independently and remember his words and deeds in detail.
